North Island Team Series Final R5

What a great way to finish the North Island Team Series! Great weather, fun racing and great teamwork from my Fitlab Team!

Lee Campbell went away in an early break of 5. We call him ‘Leech’ because he is impossible to shake off. They stayed away. He would have given them trouble in the sprint but unfortunately punctured a way out from the line but still pulled off 5th – WTG Leech. Tim Mackey was super aggressive too with free reign to go in breaks today. He never got away but if Lee hadn’t gone it would have been Tim.

Jason McCarty had a pretty specific job to mark Paul Rawlinson who was third in the series and try to roll him to get the podium. They went away right on queue about 70KM in, and made it stuck but Paul was too good and kept his spot. Jase rode great though. I was mindful of being conservative about maintaining 2nd in the series, so didn’t have much work to do, until series winner John Randal and I got a chance to have a good old drag race in the final 150 meters. We smashed it side by side and I think he must have pipped me on the line, which is a nice metaphor for the series. I’m very grateful to the team for helping me get 2nd overall. Brendan McGrath took a well deserved win in the stage.
